01

Get the specification in writing

Ask for metal fineness, gemstone identity, measurements, weights where relevant, treatments and the exact grading report. For diamonds, confirm whether natural or laboratory-grown and verify the report number with the issuing laboratory.

02

Check the seller and the return window

Review business details, independent reputation, insured shipping, secure payment and a clear return policy that allows time for an independent inspection. Confirm whether resizing, engraving or removal of tags makes a return unavailable.

03

Assess fit and service

Ask how ring sizes are measured, whether the design can be resized, and who pays for shipping and service. For necklaces and bracelets, compare actual chain length and motif dimensions with a ruler or similar item.

04

Inspect promptly on arrival

Record the unboxing, compare the item with the invoice and report, and have a qualified jeweller inspect the setting and stones. Keep all certificates and packaging until you are satisfied, but remember packaging alone is not evidence of authenticity.
