01

What it is

Cashmere is a fine undercoat fibre from cashmere-producing goats. Garment quality depends on fibre characteristics, yarn, knit or weave construction, finishing and care—not simply the word cashmere or a high price. Softness at first touch is not a complete quality test.

02

How to choose

Read fibre composition and country-of-origin claims carefully. Inspect density, evenness, seams and shape recovery; compare similar-weight garments. A lightweight piece can be excellent when designed for layering, while a thick sweater is not automatically superior. Check care requirements and whether repairs are possible.

03

The Asia lens

In subtropical cities, cashmere may be most useful in air-conditioned offices, travel and cooler months. Store clean and dry between seasons; humidity and moths are more serious long-term risks than occasional wear. Choose a knit weight that matches how you actually dress.

The short answers

Frequently asked questions

Does cashmere always pill?

Pilling can occur as short fibres migrate with friction; amount depends on fibre, yarn, construction and use. Gentle de-pilling and proper care help, but excessive early shedding merits discussion with the seller.

Can I wash cashmere at home?

Only if the label permits and you can follow the method carefully. Otherwise use a cleaner experienced with fine knitwear.

Is higher ply better?

Ply describes yarn construction, not an overall quality grade. Fibre and knit quality still matter.
